as a long distance hgv driver. having coverd almost 4 million miles. i have allways known that hospital rta admisions are a lot higher than the government accident statistics.this is because the government spin their survayes to make them meet targets.AND I HAVE FAMILLY WORKING IN HOSPITALS. from my extensive experiance driving on uk roads i can tell you that speed does not cause accidents. bad drivers are the cause. ie, a lack of indication - observation - and erratic driving . only about 2% are caused by speeding , and that is debatable. all the recourses go in to speeding . nothing is ever done about the real cause of accidents, ( bad drivers ) that is why the accident and death rate continues to rise . driver training olso needs looking at , there is too mutch emfasis on silly things like mirror signal menouver.it should be mirror signal mirror manouver mirror. too many drivers look then go a few seconds later , without looking again. cars can be coming up your side within a few seconds , asspecially on a motorway. instructors olso teach - keep up to the speed limmit. and give you a telling off iff you dont, could this be the cause of so many crashes on bends ? .a friend of mine was recently taut to speed up hills in hgv. to keep in a higher gear for eco driving . when he questioned this he was toled , it is exceptable . to get up the hill without gearing down. he was olso istructed to check mirrors before braking. even in an emergency stop. anyway . i would like to know when the government are going to do something about the other 98% of accident causes, bad drivers , instead of messing arowned with the 2 % of speeding drivers. then wee will see safer roads. speed cams are a wast of time. thay cause accidents. in some places arowned the country the death rate has gone up by 30 % after installing speed cams. when will the government learn . I will leave you with something to think about.- have you ever heard of a common denominator.-. sutch a thing in murders , rapes . etc , would be looked at , and the purpertrators stopped. SO lets look at RTA,s take away shunts. thay are usualy not seriouse in slow traffic, take away mechanical failier.take away the stupid kids showing off. and we are left with one common denominator within about 90% of all accidents. each crashed vehicle was doing a manouver. ie . crossing a white line, ie moovin from one lane to another. swapping lanes on motorways and dual garriagewayes.overtaking . pulling out on junctions. allwayes mooving from one lane into another lane .wether speeding or not. it is all caused by a lack of observation. remember the - mirror signall mirror manouver mirror. never put your car whare your eyes havnt been first, allwayes keep looking to the right AS YOU SWAP LANES.not just before you swap lanes.iff this denominator was sorted we would see a massive reduction in accident rates. practicing this has kept me safe for allmost 4 million milles in my truck.thats only about 700 years worth of normall familly driving.incident free. iff i had a £ for every car i would have hit without that second look, i would be a billionair now.observation observation observation.look look look. as you moove. thanks for taking the time to read this.now you will all be safer drivers,. just remember .THE COMMON DENOMINATOR.

Now, I may be a bit mis-informed here, so let me know. But, Driving in socks?. Is that really sensible? I thought a driverr had to wear appropriate footware.

I understand the concept behind this idea. The practicality of a mystery shopper to spot check Driving Schools and Independents leaves something to be desired. In this day of technological advancements why not video the manoeuvres to evidence the ability of the learner. The other option would be to give the examiner the authority to require a manoeuvre as they think fit, this is an effective quality control measure that is cheaper than mystery shoppers and would ensure Instructors teacxh to the standard required. The examiner can allow for nerves and assess that the learner understands the concept of the manoeuvre even if it is not necessarily up to test standard.

What nonsense,

Day time driving lights can only DISTRACT other drivers attention. Making it more difficult to see less visable road users such as motorcycles and cyclists. The reason motorbike riders use day-time headlights, is for that very reason. They need to stand out more from the jungle of traffic. If everybody uses headlights, it make things more difficult.I belive DRL will have the same effect. Instead of that, why not just paint all cars, vans, in fact all road users in bright hi-visability flourescent yellow!! Then we'll see them comming!!!!!

Well done Paul. I think you are doing a great job. I am sure other BADDIA members are behind you on this one! As I had been pre-warned, I was able to take my pupil to an alternative facility just a few minutes before her test on Wednesday. She did pass but I don't know what the result would have been if she had been forced to take her test feeling uncomfortable. This is usually the last thing people need to do on the day. It is already a nerve racking experience for them as it is so I do hope HMRC see sense and re open the toilet.

BADDIA has my full support on this, I don't see any reason why the facilities are restricted. Test candidates, upon arrival at the Test Centre, often require the toilet - they are also normally nervous as their test looms and therefore the last thing they need is to become even more anxious due to trying to find a toilet. The nearest public toilets are not always working and using one in a petrol station is, from my point of view, a very very last resort as they are so disgusting. I know that the one at the Test Centre could do with some sprucing up, but it is better than most petrol stations. It is a building that the public use, therefore there should be facilities there for them.

Fully support BADDIA and, as the toilet facility exists I see no reason why the IRS have closed it to all. On many occasions lately the nearest public facilities have been closed and the local petrol station loo's out of action what do we expect our pupils to do?

I never found the Mini to be very fuel efficient. Since I changed to a Diesel Corsa, I find things much better and when I finally get my Bio-Diesel into production I'll be really "Green"
