A local group of Driving Instructors are claiming success after the County Council finally installed 40mph speed limit signs on Longholm Way.
Bedford And District Driving Instructors Association, (BADDIA), have around 85 members, all of them driving instructors. The Chairman of the group, Paul Burchell, said that, “as an organisation concerned with road safety and education, we have a duty to our clients and the public at large to do all in our power to improve the standard of road quality and signage in general”
The stretch of road between Aspects, over Longholm bridge and to Longholm roundabout is 40mph, but, because of the lack of 40mph repeater signs, there is often confusion amongst motorists of the speed limit. The placement of the repeater signs is the first small success of what will be a continuing campaign led by BADDIA for better road signage on Bedford’s roads. The council have also agreed to place 60mph repeater signs on Cambridge road.
“Working together with the councils Highways Helpline, BADDIA hope to make a real impact on Highways issues, there are several other areas in Bedford at the moment causing some concern and the Council are currently investigating all of them”
People wishing to report issues to BADDIA, whether it’s road safety or regarding driving instruction in general, will soon be able to contact them directly. “we are currently in the process of developing an Internet web site where there will be a host of useful information”. The service is planned to roll out in February this year, in the meantime, members of the public wishing to raise any issues with BADDIA can e-mail the chairman direct at baddia@ntlworld.com
